Hello!

My name is Campbell Dunbar and I am a student at UAB's School of Nursing, and in the Nursing Honor's program.  Throughout the Honor's program we have been preparing to do a service learning project in our third semester.  Since I have always loved working with children and horses I ventured out to find a program in the Birmingham area that utilized Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and found The Red Barn.  This is a facility that has many different programs, including English and Western riding lessons, rhythmic riding, therapeutic riding, equine assisted therapy, and other enrichment activities.  Many children come to The Red Barn from many different backgrounds, some with disabilities and some without.  The families who have children coming have all seen improvements in their child's demeanor, fine motor skills, posture, and focus.  Many riders have learned to do things that they never would have before.  Throughout this semester I will go into depth on what Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is and how it works. Until then, enjoy this video about The Red Barn and it's programs and riders!
